The road that winds around the mountain, the hilltop market town of Loule disappearing below. Monchique, the Algarve's highest peak, brooding in the distance. The glorious views of the Goldra Valley. The abundance of spring wild flowers and arguably the cleanest air in Europe as you make the final climb towards the green gates of Monte Borboleta..


The pretty whitewashed houses and cottages grouped around the saltwater pool, the beautiful garden, the rustic open-air lounge reminiscent of the Carribbean. And finally the spectacular panoramic view:  the ocean and Ria Formosa natural reserve a backdrop to the verdant countryside and the Algarve’s famed Golden Triangle with its myriad attractions.


New owners since August 2024,  for us Monte Borboleta was love at first sight. Since then we have delighted in witnessing the joy of visitors as they too discover the charms of this magical place. Despite the glorious beaches beckoning a short drive away, you might just find it hard to drag yourself away from the ambient calm that cloaks our beautiful mountaintop retreat.
